Simple Texture Transform node for sprite sheet animations. The node could be useful for micro animations.

You can use https://aescripts.com/sheetah-spritesheet-tools/ (not mine) to create sprite sheets out of after effects animations.

shame the AE script is kinda quirky, seems to only work in the english version of AE.

and

shouldn't it be easily possible to just render to image sequence and build the atlas from a directory source in vvvv?

@readme, sure...but when there is a tool, why not use it ;)
